According to Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski, Billy Hunter’s 16-year reign at the head of the NBA Player’s Association is over.

Hunter, who was on indefinite leave since February 1st, was facing charges of bad business practices as the leader of the NBA Player’s Association. An independent law firm conducted a thorough investigation that,

“Focused on allegations of nepotism, conflicts of interest and potential misuse of funds, concluded that Hunter did not embezzle or steal from the union. But it found that Hunter’s current contract was not properly approved by union leadership, and that he failed to inform the committee of this fact; that he was paid $1.3 million for unused vacation time without independent review; and that he failed to disclose conflicts of interest when hiring family and friends.”

“The investigation also found that Hunter made decisions that “call into question his stewardship of union resources” when he considered investing millions of dollars in a failing bank without disclosing that his son, Todd, was a director.”

While Hunter was fighting the charges, he was always facing an uphill battle to keep his job. The NBPA union reps held a meeting today during All-Star Weekend in Houston, and the decision to oust Hunter was apparently not close.

Player reps voted in decisive manner to oust Hunter, sources tell Y! LeBron James spoke in meeting, insisting the union needed overhaul.

After the removal of Hunter, the NBPA is likely to face a complete overhaul. There will need to be many changes to address the corruption that went on under Hunter’s reign.
