In a potential Western Conference Finals preview, the Portland Trail Blazers travel to San Antonio to take on the Spurs in Friday’s Game of the Night. The Blazers are poised to end their brief playoff drought and sit just 1.5 games back of the Spurs for the one-seed in the conference, while San Antonio is looking to extend their winning ways deep into the postseason.

Portland is currently riding a three-game winning streak, but face a road trip filled with contenders. After playing the Spurs, the Blazers travel to Dallas to take on the Mavericks and Houston to play the Rockets before concluding the trip in Oklahoma City against the Thunder. To have a deep playoff run, however, the 29-9 team must be able to beat most of these squads.

LaMarcus Aldridge has emerged as an MVP candidate this season, averaging 23.8 points and 11.2 rebounds – both good for sixth best in the league while Reigning Rookie of the Year Damian Lillard drops 21.6 points per game, eleventh best. The Blazers average 109.2 points per contest, two points better than any competitor.

The Spurs are seeking to extend their winning streak to seven games in the middle of a home-stretch of games. After the Blazers, the lowly Milwaukee Bucks come to San Antonio before the Spurs host the Thunder to cap it off. At 31-8, the team owns the league’s second-best record, right behind the Indiana Pacers.

Tony Parker leads the team in scoring (18.1 ppg) and assists (6.4 apg) while Tim Duncan grabs down a team-best 9.7 rebounds per game. The Spurs average 104.7 points points per contest, fifth in the league.

Prediction:

On November 2, the last these two teams played each other, the Blazers emerged with the 115-105 home victory. San Antonio, however, is now playing at home and owns an impressive 16-5 home record. The Spurs will escape with the victory in an exciting contest, 107-102.
