Warriors Acquire Crawford in Three-Team Deal With Celtics, Heat

Though there hasn’t been any games played yet on Wednesday, the NBA world is already busy. The Golden State Warriors have acquired guards Jordan Crawford and MarShon Brooks from the Boston Celtics in a deal that sends Toney Douglas to the Miami Heat and Joel Anthony to Boston.

The Warriors have been looking to add depth at the guard position to take some of the pressure off Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, and it seems as though they have accomplished their goal with Crawford and Brooks.

Crawford is having his best season as a professional basketball player, averaging 13.7 points and 5.7 assists while starting 35 games this season. The 25-year-old had become expendable due to the expected return of All-Star Rajon Rondo.

Douglas, who was averaging 3.7 points on 37.2 percent shooting, and less than an assist per game with the Warriors was not getting the job done.

The Celtics are clearly in tank mode after dealing their third-leading scorer for Joel Anthony, a big-man who could commonly be found at the end of Miami’s bench. In 12 games with the Heat, the 31-year-old was averaging 0.5 points and 0.6 rebounds in just over three minutes per game. Boston, however, did also receive a pair of draft-picks, something certainly key to its future. One of those, originally from the Philadelphia 76ers is lottery-protected; if the Sixers do not make the playoffs this season or next, it turns into two second-round picks.

The two-time defend champion Heat not only add guard depth with the addition of Douglas, but save an upwards of $10 million in salary and luxury tax. This could be essential to the team’s future of keeping its stars, such as LeBron James and Dwyane Wade.

The Warriors were already good – expect them to now be better, while Boston is preparing for the team’s future and the Heat are, well, still the Heat – just with some more money in their back pockets.
