Ah, the old Kevin Love-Ricky Rubio connection. It’s a staple here on Pass of the Night. Usually, it’s Rubio feeding Love for an easy basket, but this time it’s the other way around.
Late last night the Minnesota Timberwolves made the long journey west to take on the Los Angeles Lakers in Staples Center. With each team hovering just outside of a playoff spot in the West, this was a big game for both squads. The Wolves were looking to get above .500 for the first time in almost a month, while the Lakers were looking to get back to .500 for the first time in two weeks.
Behind big nights from Pau Gasol, Xavier Henry and Nick Young, the Lakers got the job done, advancing to 13-13 on the year. Gasol played one of his best games of the season, scoring 21 points and grabbing 13 rebounds, while also dishing out 8 assists. Henry scored 21 of his own, as well as filling up the stat sheet with 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. And of course there was the Swag Mamba, who made sure it was Swagtime (© @highkin) all night, scoring 25 off the bench.
However, it was the Wolves – specifically Kevin Love and Ricky Rubio – who took home the honor of Pass of the Night, even in defeat.
Late in the 2nd quarter, Rubio held the ball on the left wing, and Love ran out like he was coming to set a screen, but instead stopped just above the elbow and Rubio dumped the ball into him. Rubio then cut towards the basket, and Love hit him with a perfect bounce pass that led to a layup.
