With Derrick Rose’s unfortunate injury earlier this year, the conversation about what the Bulls should do immediately turned toward tanking.

Even if the Bulls can get themselves a playoff spot in the putrid Eastern Conference, they aren’t doing anything once they’re there.

With the realization that this will be another lost season for the Bulls, many are in favor of dumping the team’s best assets and trying to rebuild. The most obvious trade piece for the Bulls is Luol Deng, as he is a very nice player and also in the last year of his contract.

Deng himself had been preparing for the possibility of being traded, he told the Chicago Sun-Times earlier. However, according to a report today from ESPN Chicago, the Bulls will not be trading Deng.

Despite being mired in a season that has been derailed by injuries, the Chicago Bulls are determined not to trade impending free-agent forward Luol Deng, sources told ESPN.com.

The Bulls, according to the report are still hopeful they can resign Deng to a new deal in the summer.

Despite failing to come to terms on a contract extension before the season, the Bulls remain optimistic they will re-sign Deng next summer.

Trading Deng or not, there really aren’t many options for the Bulls. The whole team was built around Rose and his abilities, and him not being out there renders many of their smaller parts useless.

As for guys like Deng, Joakim Noah and Jimmy Butler, they will still continue to battle, but likewise, they are less effective without Rose on the court.

There are still almost two months until the trade deadline, so it will be interesting to see what Chicago does moving forward, especially if they continue to slip further and further towards the bottom of the East. But for now at least, Deng is staying put.
