Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

A deal for the New York Knicks to acquire Raptors guard Kyle Lowry has reportedly been blocked by Knicks owner James Dolan. New York is out of cap space and does not own another first-round pick until 2018 due to previous deals that got the Knicks both Carmelo Anthony and Andrea Barganani. Both of those trades came through Masai Ujiri, former general manager of the Denver Nuggets, who is now with the Toronto Raptors.

Dolan is sensitive to the perception that Ujiri’s teams were on the better ends of the deals.

He is also irritated about two different issues surrounding the Lowry trade.

“There are two problems,” the source said. “Dolan didn’t like that someone from his group leaked it to the media, and the other problem is the Knicks seem to have too many (people) involved with making decisions.”

As reported on Thursday, the Knicks are interested in obtaining Lowry from the Raptors and apparently struck a deal with the Knicks. The trade would have sent Raymond Felton, Metta World Peace and a 2018 first-round pick to Toronto in exchange for Lowry. Dolan, however, was hesitant to give up another first round pick. He did not want to yet again, be on the short-end of another Ujiri deal.

“Dolan didn’t want to get fleeced again by Masai,” said a source. “They had a deal ready.”

Maybe Dolan and the Knicks were about to get “fleeced” once again. Maybe it is actually good that trade details were leaked to the media. Maybe, just maybe, Dolan has finally learned.

Thanks God. We don’t want R. Felton. Tim Hardaway could be an interesting acquisition but Felton??? The truth is that few teams are desperate for a PG, and these teams don’t have what the Raptors want…1st round picks, and especially 2014 1st round picks…
