Former NBA Player and Great Britain Star Mensah-Bonsu Brawls (Video)

Forget the potential of a Manny Pacquaio-Floyd Mayweather match – Euroleague fights will do just fine. Last week, former NBA player Pops Mensah-Bonsu got tangled up with Mirza Begic of Olympiakos Piraeus, which led Begic to throw an elbow at Mensah-Bonsu’s head. The 30-year-old responded – with his fist.

The basketball game quickly turned into a heavyweight fight, with each player exchanging blows as teammates and referees attempted to break it up. As the brawl began to simmer down on the court, things were just starting in the stands. Fans began to light flares and throw “missiles” at the players, according to BBC.

Mensah-Bonsu was fined as well as being suspended for three games following the incident. He issued an apology on Twitter.

Mensah-Bonsu bounced around the NBA before joining Galatasaray of the Turkish Basketball League. He has been part of organizations such as the San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets, Toronto Raptors, New Orleans Hornets and Washington Wizards, the team he was released from before the start of this season.

The 6-9 forward’s best season was with the Raptors in 2008-2009 when he averaged a career-best 5.1 points and 5.4 rebounds, playing over 13 minutes per contest in 19 appearances. He emerged as a fan favorite with the team.
