Welcome to a new, daily feature here at Saving The Skyhook. We will pick our “Player of the Night” on a consistent basis, telling you who the most impressive player from the league was on each particular night and why we chose him. Stay tuned throughout the year!

For the first of many “Player of the Night” awards, the choice could not be any easier: Kevin Durant.

The Oklahoma City Thunder (12-3) defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves (9-10) 113-103 on Sunday night, and the 25-year-old had one of the best game’s, statistic-wise the NBA has witnessed in recent memory. The 25-year-old dropped 32 points, dished out 12 assists, grabbed down 10 rebounds and added 4 steals and 4 blocks in his team’s victory.

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Durant is the first player ever with 30+ points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists, 4 steals and 4 blocks in the same game since steals and blocks became an official stat in the 1973-1974 season. The only other player to have 30, 10, 10, 4 and 4 in the same game is Michael Jordan, who accomplished the feat on January 16, 1988 against the Detroit Pistons.

“Kevin is a stat filler,” head coach Scott Brooks said. “He can do it all and he has the ability to have large scoring nights, rebounding, assists and steals and blocked shots. He’s one of the few guys that can do that. That’s what makes us a good defensive team, because he can guard not only his man, he can guard multiple positions.”

Runner-up:

The POTN runner-up is Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors. He scored 36 points, shooting 14-of-24 from the field and 5-of-8 from three-point range and added 10 assists in his team’s 115-113 victory over the Sacramento Kings. The guard also knocked down two free throws with under 10 seconds to play, giving the Warriors a two-point advantage.
