Nine games on the docket tonight, including match-ups featuring the Houston Rockets vs. Memphis Grizzlies and the New Orleans Pelicans vs. the San Antonio Spurs. But while those games are definitely worth checking out, the Game of the Night is the Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Indiana Pacers.
Currently sitting at 12-1, the Pacers have the best record in the Eastern Conference, and only the Spurs – also 12-1 – are keeping them from having the league’s best mark. They’ll be looking to extend their current three game winning streak when welcome the Timberwolves into Indianapolis.
One of the main reasons for their incredible success so far this year, is Paul George, who has been better than anyone could have expected. After his breakout playoff performance last spring, George became a household name. Many expected him to be much improved, but not this much. Through the team’s first 13 games, George is averaging just over 24 points, 6 assists and 3 rebounds a night.
The Timberwolves, meanwhile, are looking to get things back on track. After a jumping out to a 7-4 start, the Wolves have lost three of their last four to drop to 8-7. Right now, it leaves them tied for the eighth seed in a brutally tough Western Conference, which is right about where people expected them to be going into this year.
Kevin Love has arguably been the MVP so far this year, leading the team in both scoring and rebounds, averaging 24.9 points and 13.6 rebounds per night. He’ll have a tough test ahead of him tonight, going toe-to-toe with Roy Hibbert and David West.
The Pick: The first meeting between the two promises to be an exciting match-up. Love and Nikola Pekovic vs. Hibbert and West will be a bruising battle down low. In the end, I think the post play will end in a draw, but Paul George will be the difference maker for the Pacers. Indiana wins, 97-90.
