The Austin Toros are seeking revenge. On Friday night, which was the NBA Developmental League’s Opening Night, the Santa Cruz Warriors crushed the Toros 121-102. There is a lot of buzz surrounding these two teams when they take the floor, as both squads feature high-profiled players. The Toros have former NBA All-Star Josh Howard and former NBA second-round draft pick Ronald Murray. The Warriors boast players such as Seth Curry, Mychel Thompson and Taylor Griffin (inactive, injured), all three with brothers who are playing quality basketball in the league upstairs.
On Opening Night, Curry dropped 36 points on 12-of-19 shooting in his professional debut, setting a franchise record of points in one game. Thompson added 8 points in the victory.
Howard recorded 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting in his debut for the Toros, while Murray chipped in with 10.
It will be interesting to see whether Curry can maintain his high-level of play from Friday, and if Thompson can settle into a groove. Curry played a lot like his older brother, Stephen on Opening Night, one of the world’s elite scorers.
Oh, and if there’s any other reason to be interested in the game, two familiar faces will be present.
Warriors Stephen Curry & Klay Thompson expected to be in Santa Cruz tonight to watch their brothers play for D-League Warriors vs Austin.
