Game of the Night: San Antonio Spurs Vs. Memphis Grizzlies

There are eleven games on the schedule for Friday, but none seem to be more intriguing than the San Antonio Spurs Vs. Memphis Grizzlies match-up. The two teams are both considered to be in the upper echelon of the Western Conference and come into the game playing some of the league’s best basketball.

The Spurs defeated the Grizzlies 101-94 to open the season on October 30, and boast a 10-1 record thus far. This is the first time San Antonio is visiting Memphis since their four-game sweep of the Grizzlies in the Western Conference Finals in last season’s playoffs.

Point guard Tony Parker is currently leading the charge for the Spurs, dropping 18.5 points per contest while dishing out 6.1 assists, both team-highs. Tim Duncan, however, is not putting up Duncan-like numbers. He is playing the second-lowest minute mark of his career, while also averaging a career-low in points (12.1) and rebounds (7.3). For many, those stats would be considered quality. Yet, when the conversation is revolving around the three-time Finals MVP, more is expected.

The Grizzlies are looking to avenge the success that the Spurs have had over them in recent years. In the past 13 meetings between the two squads, Memphis has won only two of those games, being held to just 40.5 percent shooting from the field.

The trio of Mike Conley Jr., Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph account for 52.5 of the Grizzlies 94.8 points per game. Both Conley and Randolph are shooting above 50 percent from the field, while Conley is adding 5.5 assists per contest and Z-Bo is recording 9.4 rebounds.

The Pick:

The Spurs are looking to extend their winning streak to eight while the Grizzlies are trying to stretch their own win streak to five. Both play fundamentally sound, quality basketball and could possibly even meet in the playoff’s once again. San Antonio has had an impressive start to the young season, but it will be put on a temporarily halt after their loss to Memphis on Friday night. The Grizzlies will get help from their home crowd and edge their rivals.
