Pass of the Night: Manu Ginobili to Boris Diaw (Video)

After a 4 game winning streak brought them back to .500, things have been going perfectly things haven’t been going so well for the Boston Celtics. In their quick, two game trip to Texas, they lost to the Houston Rockets by 24 and last night, fell to the San Antonio Spurs by 11. The loss last night ran their losing streak to five games, and puts their record at 4-9. Somehow, that’s only one game out of the eighth seed in the pitiful Eastern Conference, but even as bad as the conference is, the playoffs aren’t in the Celtics future.

Meanwhile, the San Antonio Spurs are cruising along, on their way to yet another playoff appearance. (They haven’t missed the postseason since 1996-97!) At 10-1, they’re in a tie with the Indiana Pacers for the best record in the league. In typical Spurs fashion, no one really took over against the Celtics last night. Rather, everyone chipped in, doing their part to bring the team yet another victory. All five starters scored in double figures, but no one go to 20. And in the easy victory, they got contributions from their bench, including, as always, from Manu Ginobili.

Ginobili only scored 5 points, but he grabbed 3 rebounds and handed out 6 assists, including the Pass of the Night.

Late in the 3rd quarter, Ginobili was controlling up top, holding for one shot. Eventually, Boris Diaw came up to set a screen. After using the screen, Ginboili made is way left, towards the top of the key. He fumbled the ball for a second, but quickly regained control. Meanwhile, Diaw slowly made his way into the paint, where he was left wide open because of the Celtics mis-communicating on the defensive end. Avery Bradley got lost on the switch, and was nowhere near Diaw.

Ginobili, however, was well defended by Bass. But Bass’ efforts were not enough, as the crafty Argentinian found Diaw with a left handed pass around Bass’ back.
