Just two days ago, we wrote about the interest the Utah Jazz were showing in Chicago Bulls guard Marquis Teague following the injury to Trey Burke. According to reports, the Jazz aren’t the only team in their division who are interested in the second year guard out of Kentucky. Apparently, the Minnesota Timberwolves are also fans of Teague.

From the Chicago Tribune, via Pro Basketball Talk:

“Marquis Teague struggled Saturday night against the Wizards and, with the Jazz’s Trey Burke fracturing his right finger Saturday, ESPN.com speculated the Jazz could pursue trade talks for Teague. A league source said the Timberwolves also have shown interest in the past in Teague.”

If the Wolves are serious in their inquiries for Teague, it would obviously be as a backup, seeing as they have a guy named Ricky Rubio running the point. The Wolves are a bit thin at the point behind  Rubio, however. Now that Alexey Shved is pretty much a full time shooting guard now, the only backup on the squad is J.J. Barea, and Barea is more of a combo guard. Young and on a cheap contract, Teague could be a solid option for a fifth guard.

From our story on the Jazz being interested in Teague:

In his rookie season, Teague played sparingly, but showed promise at the Las Vegas Summer League a few months ago, averaging about 18 points and 5 assists per game. Nick Friedell of ESPN Chicago wrote of Teague in his player preview that,

“His jump shot must improve for him to take the next step as an NBA player. To become more of a well-rounded player, Teague must develop into a better offensive threat and continue to work defensively.”

It doesn’t seem like the Wolves have made any serious inquiries to this point, but with multiple teams now interested, it certainly seems like Teague may be on the move soon.
