Trey Burke Fractures Finger (Video)

This was always going to be a tough year for the Utah Jazz. After losing Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap in free agency, they were officially turning the team over to their young guys. And although that group – Gordon Hayward, Derrick Favors, Enes Kanter, Alec Burks – along with rookies Trey Burke and Rudy Gobert gives them hope for the future, the management knew what they were getting into this season.

Unfortunately, their plan caught a bit of a snag last night, when rookie point guard Trey Burke suffered a fractured finger in the team’s preseason loss to the Los Angeles Clippers.

The injury happened halfway through the first quarter, with the Clippers leading 17-9. You can see video of the play below.

Obviously you never want to see anyone get injured, but this injury is especially bad news for the Jazz. Burke was set to be their starting point guard, as well as a Rookie of the Year candidate. Already thin at the point, the injury leaves the Jazz with John Lucas III as the starter.

Hopefully, for both Burke and the Jazz, the injury heals in a few weeks and doesn’t develop into a long-term problem.
