After trading for Andrew Bynum over the summer, there was a lot of excitement in Philadelphia for this season. But Bynum is still yet to play this year, and his absence has been felt, especially offensively. The Sixers are currently 29th in points per game (92.3) and 27th in offensive rating (98.9).

The good news for the Sixers (currently 22-29 and only 4 games out of the playoffs) is that Bynum’s return should be soon. Earlier today, Bynum spoke to reporters and indicated that he is closing in on a return.

Bynum, when healthy, is one of the best big men in the game. His return to the court would benefit the Sixers in two ways. The first is obviously his offensive post game. But secondly, he would draw attention from opposing defenses, making everyone else’s job on the court easier.

Without Bynum, the team has had to rely on its solid defense and the young Jrue Holiday. Holiday is having a breakout season, and has turned into one of the best young point guards in the league. Should the Sixers get an engaged, healthy, Andrew Bynum back soon, they should be able to do enough to sneak into the playoffs.
