NBA Trade Rumors: The Latest News Around The League

Josh Smith:

The Atlanta Hawks’ forward has been involved in trade rumors for quite some time now. And according to CBS Sports’ Ken Berger, the Hawks are open to trading the talented lefty.

Berger reports that,

“The Hawks are very open to moving Josh Smith, and Danny Ferry the general manager there really doesn’t feel anybody on the roster is untouchable”

With Smith set to become a free agent after this season, and contract talks not going anywhere, it makes sense that Atlanta would look to make a trade. If they are not going to resign Smith, which looks likely, then they might as well try to get something in return. On the other hand, the Hawks do not want to take on a long-term, large contract that will prevent them from making a move in free agency this summer.

Eric Gordon:

The young New Orleans Hornets’ guard was reluctant to stay in New Orleans after signing an offer sheet with Phoenix in the summer. Now, there are rumors that maybe he will be leaving town after all.

According to Chris Broussard,

“The Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors are amongst the teams that have expressed interest in Gordon.”

Broussard notes however, that New Orleans actually agreeing to a trade is unlikely.

Gordon is talented, but he didn’t exactly endear himself to the organization with his actions this summer. So while nothing seems imminent, it is interesting that New Orleans was willing to listen to offers. At the very least, this is something to keep an eye on over the next week.

Los Angeles Lakers:

With the team not performing up to lofty expectations, trade rumors involving the Lakers have been rampant this season. But according to Head Coach Mike D’Antoni, the likelihood of the Lakers making a move is growing increasingly unlikely.

D’Antoni told reporters,

“We could bring somebody in to bring them on the bench for a while. But that doesn’t make any sense for us either”

With Pau Gasol, the team’s most likely trade piece out for an extended period of time, the Lakers don’t have many options, even if they do want to make a move.
