In what has started to become a weekly thing, the Carmelo Anthony sweepstakes has taken another turn. The discussed participants this time around are the New Jersey Nets, who have been trying to find a way to get Anthony for a while now, and the Detroit Pistons, who are clearly looking to change things up within their organization.
The whole deal would center around the Nets getting Anthony, and while that would be a huge land in and of itself, that wouldn’t be all that New Jersey would be getting.
The Nets would also pick up Richard Hamilton and Chauncey Billups. The former would probably want to get out of his current situation. But the latter? Well, it doesn’t sound that way.
“If he is traded, he’d want to be bought out so he could survey the landscape and re-evaluate what he wants to do going forward,” agent Andy Miller told ESPN.com in the wake of numerous reports the Nets had engaged the Pistons in three-way trade talks with the aim of bringing Anthony, Billups and Richard Hamilton to New Jersey.”
So with that being said, it sounds like the likelihood of this deal going down isn’t all that great. If the Nets are wanting to make the trade in hopes that they can keep Billups for longer than a few months, they might have to re-evaluate things a little bit.
In that same story, it also states that the Pistons aren’t pleased with the deal as it currently stands. Therefore, things aren’t sounding too good for the Nets.
But of course, by next week, there will likely be two other teams being talked about, and this whole process will start from scratch once again. It’s clear at this point that the Nuggets are in no hurry to get rid of Anthony, and why should they be? He’s one of the top scorers in the entire league, and the face of their franchise.
It’s starting to sound more and more like the Nets have the best chance to land him, but it doesn’t sound like the Nuggets/Pistons/Nets trio is gonna be the one that gets him to Brooklyn.
